Cat grooming without the drama
By Dr. Amara Osei · 5 min read
Cats groom themselves — but not completely. Long-haired breeds mat, seniors can't reach their backs, and every cat's nails keep growing. The secret isn't better tools; it's a calmer setting.
Brush little and often
Two minutes daily beats twenty minutes weekly. Short sessions end before patience runs out, and daily rhythm keeps loose fur off your sofa and out of hairballs.
Trim nails after naps
A sleepy cat is a cooperative cat. Trim one or two nails per session if needed — there's no rule that says all ten happen at once. clip only the sharp tip, well clear of the pink quick.
Respect the room
Cats read environments before they read people. Groom in a quiet, dog-free room with a non-slip surface and an escape-free door. In our studio, cats get their own suite for exactly this reason.
Know when to call us
Mats tight against the skin, sudden grooming avoidance, or flaky, greasy coats deserve professional hands — and sometimes a vet's eyes. Never cut mats out with scissors at home; skin pulls up into the tangle.
